Worker Highlight – Michael Joseph

February 7, 2018

How did you get started with SCCA?

My membership was a Christmas Present from my family. I went to my first race at Sears Point in 1993 and have been volunteering ever since.

What is your current position?

I currently am a Pit Marshal.

What do you I like about the SCCA?

Watching a good race is always fun but I like the people I get to spend time with. You hear it most of the time but it does feel like a giant family.

Why do you like volunteering?

I continue to volunteer with the SFR SCCA because I have fun doing it.

What does your role involve?

A Pit Marshal is responsible for the safety and security of the Pit Lane. When a car pits with a problem, we do the best we can to help the driver or crew in getting the car back out safely.

What don’t people know about what you do?

I am not a big talker but I love talking to people about what the team and I do at the track.

Michael Joesph talking to young fans.

Thank You!

Thanks Micheal it is always a comfort for the drivers to see you and the team on pit lane. He might be a man of few words but he does a lot for the club. The pit fire crew are the first responders incase of safety issues in the pits including in rare cases fire, so you will often see them with fire extinguishers in hand. Want to work in the pits you can volunteer to be a pit marshall too.
