How did you get started with SCCA?

In 1963, I did what they said to do on the back page of Road and Track; phone SCCA HQ in Connecticut (I believe) and ask where is your Region. It was in Montgomery, Alabama (I was in Auburn, AL) and I got in touch with the Regional Executive (Can’t remember his name but I can see his face). I went to their monthly meeting, they got two people to endorse me, and I was in. I found that you couldn’t race until you were 21 but you could work so I became Chief Tech Inspector after one event as Tech inspector. Started racing when I was 21 in 1966.

What is your current position?

SCCA Steward, Board member of SCCA Enterprises.

What do you I like about the SCCA?

It’s fun and I know all the people and I just have a great time at events.

Why do you like volunteering?

I started because I was too young to race. Flagging and Scrutineering were as close to the action as I could get. Then I began to pull wrenches on friends’ race cars, then I built my own race car and started racing. Now I just like the people.

What does your role involve?

Mostly having fun. Some management, as I have held many “management” offices. (Regional Executive San Francisco Region 7 years in 2 terms, Business manager NNJR-SCCA, National SCCA Chairman of Board of Directors (BoD), interim President of SCCA, Treasurer of SCCA and a lot of other stuff.)

What don’t people know about what you do?

I’ll never tell!
